How to reach Palampur

Flights are easily connected to the Gaggal airport in Dharamshala. It takes an hour and a half to reach the destination. After a winding drive on the hills, we were welcomed by Teljinder, the Front office manager with her hospitable team, hands with flowers and welcome drink made with fresh mangoes and mint. The lounge depicts a pretty postcard with vintage furniture, soothing upholstery, flowing drapes giving us a peek of the scenic surroundings. After the usual check-in formalities, we were ushered to our suite.  

Amongst a collection of cozy rooms that feel like home, there is one show-stopping suite where we were hosted for two nights.

The Suite beautifully pairs luxury with rustic comfort and features breathtaking views of the Mountain, with the gushing stream few kilometers away. The interior design is rustic, aesthetic, featuring deep browns, plaids and hand carved wooden furniture and art pieces.

It comprises of a spacious living room that makes you feel like you are in a cozy home with vintage upholstery, lamps, paintings and decorative figurines. The large living space features stunning vaulted ceiling creating the perfect space to relax in comfort and soak in the tranquil scenic views. A sit-out area with views of the clouds and mountains look breathtaking.

The master bedroom features a gorgeous kind-sized bed, with a separate sitting area overlooking the mountain ranges. A large wardrobe equipped with gowns made with soft fabric add to the plush factor. Facilities like kettle, tea/coffee sachets, cookies from their in-house bakery, selection of complimentary snacks and fruits are always placed on the center table for the ultimate comfort.  There was a beautiful special chocolate hut placed on the table that pleased us to an extent that was difficult to express.

The ombre tiled bathrooms, including powerful rain showers and luxury bath products are very alluring. The beds are super comfy with pillows you can simply glide into and the rooms.

The entertainment system features a flat screen TV with satellite channels, so guests can stream their favorite shows and movies.

We ordered for in-room dining – lentils, vegetables and hot rotis. The sit-out area is the perfect place to enjoy a nice hot meal, served on time by a smiling attendant. We loved how the well prepared food matched well with the fresh air, the shrill sounds of birds and the beautiful sight of snow-capped mountains, as far as the eye can see.

Wellness with Araiya

At Araiya, you are pampered with their guest relations. Each member of the staff treats you warmly and takes extra care of your personal needs like a family. The wellness at Araiya comprises of a spa that is well equipped with warm rooms and steam facility. The ambiance is serene with gentle music playing in the background and a whiff of aromatic fragrance in the air. I experienced the most relaxing massage at the spa with a Swedish therapy that took care of aching muscles and an overactive mind.

The orchards

A morning yoga session in the orchard was an experience that I cannot get in the city.  Breathing in fresh air, listening to birds, gazing into the sky and touching the pine trees is a memory that will linger on forever.  

Araiya has some of the most beautiful gardens spreads across the property. You can enjoy looking at the well manicured pots and plants, huge trees and feeling the soft grass while walking around the property. The orchard has an array of seasonal fruits and flowers in full bloom adding. There are hammocks lined up where you can relax with your feet up and eyes  gazing at the floating clouds and the fleet of birds.

Dining

The restaurant features a large dining area including a fresco seating with impeccable views of the misty clouds.  The menu appeals to vegetarian and chicken lovers, with mouth-watering North Indian dishes, continental dishes like salads, pastas, pizzas and exciting Himachal cuisine that reflect the culinary finesse of the executive chef. All rounded off well with those incredible views. The breakfast buffet comprises of healthy and indulging variants that include oats, cereals, pancakes, waffles, puddings, smoothies. There are options like poha, dosa, idlis, paranthas for those who love heavy breakfast.

The Old Fox – A vintage bar

Open throughout the year, the Old Fox has become a favorite with locals and visitors alike and is not surprising as it curates interesting cocktails and mocktails and has the most spacious terrace with breathtaking views of the mountains. Relax in the bar’s cozy lounge, soak in their comfortable sofas, modern armchairs, and plush cushions while you admire the hotel’s art and book collection. There is an eclectic wine and cocktail menu which the bar team can give advice and guide you with.

We were fortunate to witness a mélange of music and wine at night while enjoying a local Himachal cuisine prepared by the diligent chef. While the strumming of guitar and soul-stirring numbers evoked happiness for the heart, the piping hot food pleased the palette.

Activities

In addition to the incredible dining and spa amenities, Araiya offers village walks, treks, off-road experience and other activities based on guests’ requests. I got to experience the rustic village life with Exsul adventure that takes care of village walks and introduces people to the simple lives of the villagers.

Conclusion

Araiya is an excellent choice with stunning views of the snow clad peaks. The vintage style rooms, excellent dining, incredible views and all set in the lovely location – making it the place to stay when you visit Palampur.
