Discover Sri Jungle Ashram Rishikesh: Yoga, Meditation & Spiritual Wellness in Nature

With travel as my main profession, I didn’t realize how burnt out I felt with tight deadlines and the hormonal changes in my body. I simply needed a reset – to calm my nervous system and refresh my entire system.

I discovered a place near Rishikesh that felt like a reset for me – Sri Jungle Ashram Akhand Institute. It felt like a calling – homely, satisfying and healing. I instantly took a flight from Delhi to Dehradun and boarded the cab towards Rishikesh. After a rough drive for about two hours, my heart felt full on reaching the ashram.

Sri Jungle Ashram

A brief introduction to Akhanda’s Sri Jungle Yoga Ashram and Retreat

Located in the Himalayan foothills near Rishikesh (about 27 km away), the unique forest setting makes Sri Jungle Ashram ideal for quiet reflection and yoga practice. The ashram is part of the wider Akhanda Yoga tradition founded by Himalayan master Dr. Yogrishi Vishvketu.

Reception and relaxing area at Sri Jungle Ashram

First Impressions

I stood there in silence as I gazed at the simplicity of Sri Jungle ashram. After the usual formalities, I checked in my room, that had a bed with pillows and blankets, a window that opened to the jungle. Fresh air, sound of birds and calming sensation was all I could feel. It was magical.

I went to sleep for sometime and cannot express the deep relaxation I felt after a hour of undisturbed rest. This was the something I needed since a long time. I woke up after an hour to the soothing sounds of birds. The sunlight bouncing in my room, making my face all lit up.

Nearby flowing stream

I stepped outside to explore the ashram. The place is spread across the hill; made without uprooting any trees. There is a vibration in the entire space making you feel connected and at peace. A small stream flowing rapidly caught my eye as I walked down. I stepped inside, water tingling my feet and taking away my stress. I felt calm and centered as I sat in silence with my feet dipped in the cold waters. I felt fresh and rejuvenated already.

Yoga and meditation hall

The gong goes for a meditation session by Dr. Yogrishi in the yoga hall. The calming music, reverberating sensation and guided meditation help me to drift away to magical paradise, making me feel relaxed. I felt my spirit united with the almighty, surrendered and dis-attached from the material world. The meditation helped to calm me down further.

Satvik meal at Sri Jungle Ashram

The gong went off for dinner time. The Ashram serves dinner by 6.30 pm that helps in easy digestion and aids in better sleep. There were students who were serving food with so much devotion and love. The environment felt pure and so wholesome. Seated on the floor, I devoured my food on a plate; gratitude. There is always music being played while serving food/prasadam so that consuming food becomes a soulful practice.

Day 2

Yoga and Pranayama at Sri Jungle Ashram

The day begins at 5.30 with meditation, paranayam and yoga ; followed by fire pooja. Here while the puja happens, shlokas are recited with devotion by guruji, his wife Kal Prakashini Ji, who is a steward of authentic Yogic wisdom.

Fire Pooja at Jungle Ashram

Breakfast is followed next, with a wholesome meal complete with vegetables from their organic garden. I was very curious to see their garden, so I took a tour with Deeksha, who manages the ashram. The organic garden has huge varieties of vegetables that are grown without any preservatives. I was delighted to experience the walk. There were chillies, mustard, cauliflower, reddish, beets, ginger, coriander etc carefully nourished and grown with love.

After the garden walk, I went for a massage at the ashram. The massages are therapeutic and definitely worth trying. I went for a full body massage and literally fell asleep. It wasn’t just relaxing, but it also helped me get rid of the stress I was carrying for so long.

This was followed by a yog nidra class by Kal Prakashini Ji who is also an architect in shaping Akhanda Yoga Wellbeing’s global mission — initiating, expanding, and nurturing.

Tantra vidya

There was tantra vidya by Dr. Yogrishi, organized for the yoga teachers; followed by yantra knowledge. It was an eye opener for me , as I experienced something that I hadn’t learnt in years.

Sri Jungle Ashram

The evening tea comprises of poha and tea – light and delicious. There was a light meditation session in the evening followed by a satvik dinner. Here there are two main meals served, morning and evening: with a light snack in the afternoon. Utensils have to be washed by the students / residents.

A Sad Goodbye

The next day it was time for me to leave the ashram – the place that helped me built connection, made me feel centered and calm and create awareness. I felt myself more organized and productive by the end of the retreat.

Short Wellness Getaways & Mini Retreats: The Reset You Didn’t Know You Needed

Why Mini Retreats Are Trending in 2025

Short wellness getaways are more than just spa weekends—they’re intentional resets that combine relaxation, mindfulness, and self-care. According to recent travel trends, people are prioritizing wellness experiences over traditional sightseeing, with mini retreats becoming one of the fastest-growing segments in the wellness travel industry.

Key reasons they’re gaining popularity:

  • Time-efficient – Ideal for long weekends or quick breaks.
  • Affordable – Easier on the budget than extended retreats.
  • Accessible – Often available just a few hours from major cities.
  • Effective – Even 48 hours of mindful living can reset your energy.

Types of Short Wellness Getaways

1. Weekend Yoga Retreats

Perfect for beginners or seasoned practitioners, these retreats combine daily yoga sessions with meditation, healthy meals, and plenty of downtime.

2. Spa & Detox Escapes

Think massages, thermal baths, herbal treatments, and clean-eating menus designed to help you detox and unwind.

3. Nature & Mindfulness Retreats

Set in mountains, forests, or near the ocean, these mini breaks focus on connecting with nature through guided walks, forest bathing, and breathwork.

4. Digital Detox Weekends

No Wi-Fi, no emails, no endless scrolling. Just peace, journaling, and face-to-face human connection.

What to Expect from a Mini Retreat

Even with just 2–3 days, a short wellness escape can include:

  • Daily yoga, meditation, or breathwork classes
  • Holistic spa therapies and body treatments
  • Nutritious, plant-based or farm-to-table meals
  • Workshops on mindfulness, stress relief, or nutrition
  • Free time to rest, explore, or simply do nothing

The goal? To leave you feeling lighter, calmer, and more centered than when you arrived.

How to Choose the Right Short Wellness Getaway

When searching for your next mini retreat, consider:

  • Location – Close enough to travel easily, but far enough to feel “away.”
  • Focus – Do you want yoga, spa, mindfulness, or a mix?
  • Budget – Short retreats range from affordable group stays to luxury escapes.
  • Philosophy – Choose a retreat that aligns with your values (sustainability, holistic healing, etc.).

Benefits of Short Wellness Getaways

  • Reduce stress & anxiety
  • Improve sleep quality
  • Reset unhealthy habits
  • Increase focus & productivity
  • Boost mood and overall well-being

Even a short reset can have long-lasting benefits, especially if you bring simple practices—like mindful eating, breathwork, or journaling—back into daily life.

In 2025, short wellness getaways are more than a travel trend—they’re a necessity for modern living. Whether it’s a weekend yoga retreat, a spa detox, or a digital-free escape into nature, a few days of intentional rest can help you return home refreshed, inspired, and ready to face life with new energy.

So next time you’re feeling burned out, don’t wait for that two-week vacation. A mini retreat might be exactly what your mind, body, and soul are craving.

My Healing Experience at Tre Wellness : A Luxury wellness retreat in the outskirts of Hyderabad

Have you ever felt like you’ve been running on empty for too long? That was me. Juggling work, endless notifications, and the pressure to stay “on” left me exhausted—physically and mentally. Instead of another rushed vacation, I decided to give myself the gift of something deeper: a stay at a Tre Wellnessluxury wellness retreat in the outskirts of Hyderabad.

What I found there wasn’t just relaxation. It was transformation—through healing therapies, mindful living, and food that nourished far beyond the plate.

Arriving in a World of Calm

The retreat was tucked away in nature, surrounded by rolling hills and fragrant gardens. The moment I arrived, I was greeted with a glass of fresh watermelon juice tempered with a citrus flavor. Its citrusy aroma was the perfect welcome—a signal to my body and mind that it was time to slow down.

The atmosphere itself felt like medicine: the scent of lemongrass in the air, sound of water trickling and the sound of birds. I knew I had stepped into a sanctuary.

Healing Therapies That Transformed Me

The heart of my retreat experience lay in the therapies—rooted in ancient traditions, delivered with modern luxury. The therapy rooms at Tre Wellness are luxurious and blend comfort & healing. The massages are curated as per the requirements of the body type, therefore inducing a sense of calm & restoration for the mind, body & soul.

  • Abhyanga Massage: This Ayurvedic oil massage was unlike anything I’d experienced. Two therapists worked in synchronized movements, their strokes warm and rhythmic. It felt as though they weren’t just easing muscle knots, but realigning my entire energy.
  • Shirodhara Bliss: Imagine a continuous stream of warm oil flowing gently over your forehead. As it happened, my breath slowed, and I slipped into a deep meditative state. It was pure stillness—a kind of peace I didn’t know I needed.
  • Potli therapy: During my stay, I also experienced the potli therapy – a traditional Ayurvedic therapy using small, heated cloth pouches, filled with a blend of medicinal herbs, spices, and oils. as the potli is applied to the body, the therapists apply gentle pressure and heat to stimulate blood circulation, relax muscles, alleviate pain and stiffness, and promote overall relaxation and detoxification. This was the best therapy I have experienced.
  • Budha bowls & medititation: At Tre Wellness, Tibetan singing bowls fill the air with vibrations. I could feel the sound resonating through my body, dissolving tension with every note. It was as though my heartbeat had found a new rhythm.
  • Herbal Steam Detox: Enveloped in warm, herbal-infused steam, I felt my skin and spirit both exhale. The lightness I carried afterwards was not just physical but emotional—like shedding layers I didn’t realize I was holding.

These therapies reminded me that true healing isn’t about adding more—it’s about surrendering to stillness.

Food as Medicine at Ahara: Nourishment with Intention

The retreat’s dining philosophy was simple yet powerful: food should heal. And it did—beautifully.

  • Breakfast: After sunrise yoga, I started my mornings with banana smoothies. The flavors were as vibrant & healing to the gut.
  • Lunch: Meals in the afternoon were grounding and energizing. There was gram flour pancake, ragi dosai, salads for lunch. One standout dish was lentils pizza drizzled with cottage cheese & vegetables. desserts are not served ; but the last day I was served a hearty gulab jamun made with sweet potatoes. It was heavenly. I could hear the sound of birds songs replacing background chatter, while devouring their hearty meals.
  • Mid meals: comprised of sprouts & herbal teas.
  • Dinner: Evenings brought calming, restorative dishes. There were wholesome soups that felt warm, soothing, and intentional.

What struck me most was the practice of mindful eating. Meals often began in silence, allowing us to really notice textures, aromas, and flavors. Eating slowly, without distraction, turned food into meditation—and nourishment into true self-care.

Lessons Beyond Relaxation

The retreat wasn’t only about therapies and meals. It was about rediscovering myself in stillness. I journaled by the pond, walked barefoot on dewy grass at sunrise, and joined workshops on mindfulness and breathwork. The best was the art therapy – where I played with colors & expressed my emotions on paper & stone – it was transformation & shift in energy that I experienced.

For the first time in months, I wasn’t rushing. I was simply being.

Coming Home Renewed

When I left, I felt lighter in every sense. My skin glowed, my body was energized, and my mind felt uncluttered. But what I carried home mattered even more: small daily practices. Drinking warm lemon water in the morning. Eating with attention. Pausing to breathe deeply when life gets overwhelming.

Final Reflection

Tre Wellness Retreat isn’t just a getaway—it’s an invitation to heal, reset, and reconnect with yourself. The therapies and mindful meals weren’t indulgences; they were medicine for my body and soul.

Sometimes, the most luxurious gift you can give yourself is the permission to rest. And in that rest, you may just find the healing you’ve been searching for.

Conclusion

If you’ve ever considered a wellness retreat, let this be your sign. Whether for a weekend or a week, giving yourself that space to reset is a powerful act of self-care. Your body—and your soul—will thank you.

My Experience at Mangosteen – A Luxury Ayurveda Wellness Resort in Phuket

In a world that moves faster than we can catch our breath, sometimes all we truly need is a pause. I found mine at Mangosteen – A family owned luxury Ayurveda wellness resort nestled amidst nature. Here time slowed down, my mind found stillness, and my body finally began to heal. Located an hour from Phuket airport, the Mangosteen resort promises a relaxing and therapeutic wellness vacation for the family.

The Arrival: A Warm Embrace

From the moment I stepped onto the property, I knew this wasn’t going to be just another escape—it was a return to myself. I was greeted with a garland of fresh flowers, a herbal welcome drink, and the calming scent of lemongrass wafting through the air.

Accommodation: to stay in a peaceful setting

My villa, surrounded by palm trees and birdsong, had the perfect blend of rustic charm and modern luxury—earthy tones, wooden interiors, a private space with hammock overlooking the ocean, and an open-air shower with a bathtub filled with rose petals, that made me feel deeply connected to nature.

The Ayurveda Consultation: to know the body type

The journey began with a detailed consultation with an Ayurvedic doctor. Gentle and attentive, he examined my pulse, asked about my lifestyle, and helped me understand my dosha—Vata—which explained the anxiety and insomnia I had been struggling with. Based on this, he curated a personalized treatment plan that included specific therapies, a satvik diet, and even lifestyle suggestions to continue back home. Each day started with yoga and meditation.

Yoga, Meditation & Therapy: To balance, the body, mind & soul

Every morning, I joined a serene yoga session facing the rising sun, guided by an instructor who made each movement feel sacred. In the evenings, guided meditation helped me reconnect with my breath and silence the inner chatter. One of my favorite moments was the sound healing session—the rhythmic sounds that seemed to align every cell in my body.

Healing Foods : That Nourish the soul Than Just the Body

The meals were a revelation. Plant-based, freshly cooked satvik food with medicinal herbs tailored to my dosha. Wholesome, delicious dishes that felt like an offering to my body. From kitchari and herbal teas fresh seasonal vegetables, I learned that food can be both healing and indulgent. I especially loved the breakfast buffet, complete with dips and yoghurt, fresh fruits, detox juices and vegan pancakes.

Healing Therapies: Touches of Tranquility

The Spa at the resort is an oasis of wellness, with soft soothing music in the background and aromas of healing oils and herbs to calm the nervous system. I was already feeling relaxed and grounded as I set foot in the spa.

I experienced Abhyanga—a synchronized full-body massage using warm medicated oils, followed by steam. The next day there was a coffee scrub, that felt heavenly with the exfoliation, this helping in cleansing the skin.

I also experienced a facial the last day of my stay. Gentle strokes in circular motion only helped in skin repair that was so needed. The spa also offers treatments like Shirodhara, where a steady stream of oil is gently poured onto the forehead, melting away years of stress.

My mother who had a persistent knee pain loved the Podikizhi (herbal pouch therapy) and Pizhichil, a royal treatment that left her body deeply rejuvenated. The therapists at Mangosteen are intuitive, kind, and grounded in ancient wisdom passed down through generations.

Workshops: to learn and grow

Mangosteen conducts several workshops for guests to keep them updated and buzy. I personally loved the head massage workshop, where I learnt the basic steps of massaging scalp and activating the nerves.

Nature Walks & Acupressure Trails: to discover

The resort conducts guided nature walks to beautiful serene places like Prothem cape. The walk in itself is like therapy, passing though beautiful sights and inhaling fresh air.

Pool: to relax , soak and float

After nature walks, I would soak inside the pool, that offers a calming sensation to the muscles, while relaxing the entire body. It’s a therapy in itself, just being in the water and drifting, watching the clouds and simply floating.

The Mangosteen also has a small shop in the reception where guests can buy local things or gifting tems. The rates are affordable and most of the things are homemade.

Final Thoughts: A Journey Back to Myself

What I experienced at the Ayurveda wellness resort wasn’t just a detox—it was a deep, soulful re-alignment. I returned lighter, calmer, more in tune with myself. It taught me that true luxury is not about opulence, but about inner peace, intentional living, and sacred self-care.If you’ve been feeling depleted or simply disconnected, I highly recommend this retreat. Sometimes, the most luxurious journey is the one that takes you inward.
