The closing month of 2019 was fabulous. I had the opportunity to travel to a beautiful destination called Trivandrum, a jewel in the heart of Southern India. Trivandrum is one of the hottest destinations in Kerala. Home to clean beaches, captivating backwaters, vibrant lush trees and traditional temples, Trivandrum or Tiruvanthapuram is a place full of discovery and visual magic.
I witnessed a grand experience at the luxurious property called Uday Samudra, a luxury property located on an idyllic island off the coast of Kovalam. Uday Samudra was the most exclusive castaway escape ever.
Fringed by exceptionally beautiful beach and a sprawling area, the resort represents an insanely beautiful haven where guests can enjoy unique bespoke experiences in ultimate privacy. Dotted along the pristine Kovalam beach, the resort’s massive rooms facing the beach are a masterpiece in luxury and design. The property is accentuated by lush foliage and a canopy of green. The rhythms of the beautiful natural surroundings will coax you into a state of ultimate relaxation the moment you step in.

As I entered the grand property, I was swept off my feet. Each corner exudes charm and elegance. AW warm staff ensures guests are taken care of.
First Impressions
The resort features an incredible decor and architecture. Literally translating ‘to rise’, Uday Samudra’s design blends barefoot beach luxury with a traditional blend of South. The interiors feature neutral tones of ivory and deep brown, matching the resort’s beach, rock walls, and decks. The minimalist elegance is counterbalanced by a few sprinkles of turquoise on their upholstery in the waiting lounge which brings a decisive island feel.
Uday Samudra features a magnificent waiting area with comfortable seating options to add comfort to guest while they wait to be ushered. On the right hand side, there is a dining pavilion under an intricate palm-leaf-woven roof. Environmental protection comprises restoration of the island’s natural vegetation by planting palms, fig trees coconut trees.
The pavilion is flanked by a live food station that showcases masterpieces being crafted by their talented chefs. The chic indoor restaurant has a wide dining space that is spacious and has a buffet lined up with exotic dishes to tantalize the cravings of diners. Their breakfast buffet is worth experiencing as it has a mix of continental and authentic dishes to offer. The iddiyappams were the best I have tried while savoring the breakfast buffet.
The style of the resort is a harmony of traditional Southern and International design. Combining indoor and outdoor living, almost all rooms open to the beachfront. The overall color scheme of the compliments with the decor aiming for authenticity rather than ostentatiousness.
Uday Samudra has three luxurious pools that overlook the beachside and lush green foliage. You can go for a refreshing dip anytime your heart desires.
Luxurious rooms
Space is no issue as these palatial rooms that are enormous in size. What is even better is that are all dotted on the magnificent beach, affording spectacular views of the splashing sprawling along the coast line. Each room has luxury oozing with soft mattresses and super soft pillows. The beds give a super comfortable sleeping experience. Luxury amenities include walk in closet with robes and slippers, kettle with tea coffee sachets, reading desk with stationary, huge looking glass and a mini bar. The washroom has all the luxury toiletries, wide wash basin, a rain shower and soft bath towels.
I was in awe with the luxury essence of the room. The best part was the welcome cake that was kept in my room. As it was my anniversary the staff was extremely courteous in placing a beautiful red velvet cake in the room. The flower petals and swan shaped towels added to the luxury essence. I felt like a queen for a day.
Dining
Food at Uday Samudra is delicious. Every day, the resort’s outstanding culinary team creates exquisite meals that bring together the finest local ingredients with world class skill. Dishes range from light and fresh to indulgent and delectable, with flavors pulled from around the globe.
Daily menus are designed according to the latest recipes. Special consideration is given to any dietary requirements you may have. You can choose to dine in any of the resort’s stunning dining areas – Grasshopper, Courtyard international, Lounge, Swastha ayurvedic vegetarian restaurant, café lobby, horseshoe bar and waves on the beach.
Each area is reminiscent of open spaces, warm ambiance, luxury dining options and excellent service.
Leisure days at the resort
Days on the island are filled lazing on the beach or swimming in the gigantic pool. However, I strongly suggest dragging yourself outside the room to explore the beautiful property that has a story to tell in each corner. Their landscaped gardens with butterflies hovering are a sight to watch. A small shop with local things to purchase promises authentic products at reasonable cost. They also have recreation areas with board games to indulge in. A highlight not to be missed is their spa area.
Ayurveda and Thai Spas
There are two spas that offer luxury treatments for the mind, body and soul. Both the spas exude luxury and offer world class therapies that help in unwinding and relaxing.
The Spa area is a sanctuary of understated glamour, finished with smooth marble and stone. While glancing at the menu, I found traditional Thai therapies that looked promising. I opted for the deep tissue massage. The one hour long session is done with aroma oil and is excellent for relieving pain and stiffness. Plush robes and slippers helped me to glide into comfort as soon as I wore them. I lie face down and gaze at the beautiful pot with rose petals in it. The soothing aroma calmed my nerves down and I close my eyes.
The 60 minutes therapy is a delight that infuses the goodness of aroma oil and is highly recommended owing to the therapeutic effects.
Sightseeing options in Trivandrum
The hotel offers chauffer driven cabs to guests that take them around for local sightseeing. I had the opportunity to visit some of the best temples and churches in the city. The highlight of the place is the Poovar backwaters that offer a stunning experience in the motor boat. I was offered a luxury boating experience courtesy the Samudra backwaters – a group that has luxury hotel and boating experience. Uday samudra has a tie up with them and ensures guests are well taken care of.
